Chilli Types: Peperoncino

The heart of Italian heat. “Peperoncino” is the generic Italian name for hot chili peppers (Capsicum annuum), particularly the Calabrian variety. They provide a moderate, pleasant heat (15,000 – 30,000 SHU) and a fruity, slightly smoky flavour. They are essential to Italian cuisine, most famously used dried in oil (olio al peperoncino) or in arrabbiata sauce.
